As far as I can see ViolentMonkey WExt is not supported any more.
The Extension webpage tells me "This extension was turned off because it is no longer supported"
I guess this is because VM does not implement Manifest v3 yet.
But this can be circumvent with enabling the browsers (Irons) "Developer Mode".
But VM WExt stll shows this error in Iron.
When I compare it with Brave browser (a Chromium derivate too) then VM works without any problems over there.
Whats wrong?
Why is ViolentMonkey WExt not supported any more (even not in Dev Mode)? Brave with support

The dev has had an open feature request on GitHub to update the application to Manifest V3 since October 2023, and so far seems reluctant to update. Chrome started disabling MV2 extensions back in October.pstein wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:49 pm As far as I can see ViolentMonkey WExt is not supported any more.

Manifest V3 bans extensions from running remotely hosted code, which obviously has an impact on userscript extensions.
There's no real reason the Violentmonkey extension couldn't be updated to MV3 though, since Tampermonkey seems to have managed it.

that’s a bummer about ViolentMonkey on Iron! I’ve run into similar quirks before. From what I’ve seen, Iron can be pickier with extensions than Brave, even with Dev Mode on. Brave might be handling Manifest V2 stuff better for now—maybe Iron’s latest update tightened the screws too much? Have you tried rolling back to an older Iron version to see if it plays nice? Also, I heard some folks got ViolentMonkey working by sideloading it differently—might be worth a shot! What version of Iron are you running?pstein wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:49 pm As far as I can see ViolentMonkey WExt is not supported any more.

Does the V3 manifest prohibit extensions from running remotely hosted code? Where did you get this information, I can't find the data? Thanks.maryacarter wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 2:33 amThe dev has had an open feature request on GitHub to update the application to Manifest V3 since October 2023, and so far seems reluctant to update. VM WExt not working, even in dev mode? That's weid. Works fine in Brave, which is also Chromium-based... Something's definitely fishy with Iron. Maybe some specific flag needs tweaking? Double-check Iron's setting, maybe something related to extensions or security got flipped. As far as I can see ViolentMonkey WExt is not supported any more.

I've had the same problem. I guess Iron has more stringent or outdated support for extensions that aren't fully compatible with Manifest v3?geometry vibes wrote: ↑
