Huawei Mate XT: The Double-Fold Luxury Foldable for Over 2500 Euros
Huawei has unveiled a new, innovative foldable smartphone in China: the Huawei Mate XT. This unique model can be unfolded twice, expanding the screen from an initial 6.4 inches to 7.9 inches and finally to an impressive 10.2 inches. When fully unfolded, the device is only 3.6 millimeters thin, while in its folded state, it measures 12.8 millimeters—only slightly thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, with a price of around 2550 euros, it is significantly more expensive.
The Huawei Mate XT, officially named "Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design," features three separate screens. When fully folded, the OLED display measures 6.4 inches, which is a typical smartphone size. The first fold expands the screen to 7.9 inches, and a second fold extends it to 10.2 inches. The resolution changes from 2232x1008 pixels to 2232x2048 pixels and finally to 2232x3184 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:11. The device then measures 219 mm in width and 156.7 mm in height.
Regarding technical details, Huawei is keeping quiet, especially about the processor used. The device weighs 298 grams and comes with 16 GB of RAM and storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. The operating system is HarmonyOS 4.2, still based on Android code. Huawei plans to fully move away from Android with the upcoming HarmonyOS Next version.
The integrated battery has a capacity of 5600 mAh, supporting fast charging at 66 watts and wireless charging up to 50 watts. The rear camera setup includes three lenses: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom. On the front, there's an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
The Huawei Mate XT is available in China starting at 19,999 RMB (approximately 2546 euros) for the 256 GB version. The 512 GB and 1 TB models are priced at 21,999 RMB (2800 euros) and 23,999 RMB (3055 euros), respectively. It is still unclear if the device will be available in Europe. Huawei devices sold in Germany generally lack Google services, making the use of many apps and services like Google Pay or streaming apps difficult. This often complicates the installation of updates and apps, making it time-consuming.
