Unofficial Roadmap: No New AMD Notebook APUs Expected in 2026?
Rumors suggest that AMD may not release new notebook APUs for the mainstream segment in 2026. According to an unofficial roadmap, AMD is planning only updates in the form of the "Strix Point Refresh" and "Krackan Point Refresh" series. This information originates from leaks by insider "Golden Pig Upgrade," known for early details on tech developments.
The alleged roadmap indicates that AMD will stick with its "Strix Point" series in 2025, potentially followed by a refresh in 2026. In the entry-level segment, "Hawk Point," currently known as Ryzen 8040, could take its place beneath "Krackan Point" with no direct successor in sight, possibly marking the end of socket FP7.
In the "Enthusiast Gaming and Mobile Workstation" category, the unofficial roadmap suggests new additions for 2025: "Fire Range" and "Strix Halo" could replace existing series. "Fire Range" would feature up to 16 Zen-5 cores, offering X3D variants aimed at gamers. "Strix Halo" is expected to deliver a robust integrated GPU and may be branded as "Ryzen AI 300 Max."
If these rumors hold true, AMD might unveil "Krackan Point," "Fire Range," "Strix Halo," as well as new RDNA-4 graphics cards and Ryzen 9000 models at CES 2025. These products and more are likely to shape AMD's presence at the event.
What is an APU?
An APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) combines CPU and GPU functionality into a single chip, delivering solid graphics performance without a dedicated GPU. APUs offer a compact and energy-efficient solution, particularly advantageous for ultra-thin and lightweight devices.
