Page(s) Unresponsive for New Tab and Everything

I installed Portable 38.0.2050.0 Stable on my Win7x64 system on 11/11. I even got pepper flash up and running.
Today, out of the blue as they say, all that happens when I start it up is Page(s) Unresponsive for... New Tab.
I deleted my Profile folder. No fix.
Here's a screenshot of a clean profile a about 30 seconds into startup; waiting or killing doesn't do anything. I can't open settings, flags, plugins - they all result with a Page(s) Unresponsive for Untitled.
What is up with that? Help, please.
