by SRWare
We released the new Iron for Linux 77 today, which contains all features and updates known from Chromium 77. The current version is 77.3900.0.
Main improvements:
- Hyperlink auditing disabled
- No popups during page unload
- Bug-/Securityfixes
On Debian and distributions which use an older Kernel the following commands may be necessary (the .deb packages already do it automatically):
Code: Select all
cd [insert Iron directory here]
sudo chown root chrome-sandbox
sudo chmod 4755 chrome-sandbox
sudo chmod 4755 chrome-wrapper
./chrome-wrapper (for the start of Iron)
On Kubuntu, Lubuntu and other Non-GNOME-Distributions, please run once:
To enable Netflix oder Amazon Video you have copy libwidevinecdm.so from an original Google Chrome installation to the Iron folder.
Alternative: Get it from the Slackware-Respos:

I just upgraded from Version 71.0.3700.0 to this version and when I did so, it crashed as soon as I tried to open a new tab. After that, it would never start up again.
Please see this error output for details:
https://pastebin.com/f0WG4ZPq
It forced me to regress back to 71, of course.
Any idea what I did wrong, aside from not updating for a long time? Thanks!

x64 crashes immediately upon load--the browser pops up and instantly disappears.
Ubuntu 19.10, Linux kernel 5.3.0-19 generic, GNOME 3.34.1

I'm confused by the announcement. The title says version 77.0.4000.0 but the first sentence mentions version 75.0.3900.0. After I downloaded and installed the deb package, i get this:
Code: Select all
$ dpkg -l|grep iron64
ii iron64 75.0.3900-0 amd64 SRWare Iron-Browser 64-Bit
When I execute the binary, I get this:
Code: Select all
$ /usr/share/iron/chrome-wrapper --version
Chromium 77.0.4000.0 custom
I also experience the same error as mentioned earlier when launched:
Code: Select all
[19767:19767:1108/225021.049354:ERROR:sandbox_linux.cc(369)] InitializeSandbox() called with multiple threads in process gpu-process.
[19694:19694:1108/225021.279593:FATAL:template_expressions.cc(98)] Check failed: value != replacements.end(). $i18n replacement key "localNtpCustomBgIntegrity" not found
Interestingly, if I launch Chromium via /usr/bin/chromium and then execute /usr/share/iron/chrome-wrapper, I get another Chromium session.
Does this need repackaged? Also, there is this:
https://thehackernews.com/2019/11/chrom ... pdate.html so maybe rebuild against the latest Chrome fork?

It doesn't work...
Ubuntu 19.10: just opens and closes immediately.
Code: Select all
/usr/share/iron/chrome-wrapper

Same here. Only way to get it working again is to start with a fresh configuration, but as soon as you try to open a new tab, you're right back where you started

. Verified this behavior for the 64-bit version. Have not tried the 32-bit version.

I have the same problem about the version mixture, I can use mine, but the browser keep saying I need to finish the update
From what I can understand on the German page for this update, it is the same problem in 32bit
