Stable versus Portable Version

Strange problem!!! I downloaded stable version and had the following problems: 1. Upon opening browser, I received the following message-Profile cannot be used its from a newer ver. Some features may be unavailable. Please specify a different profile directory or use a newer version. 2. Favicons would show up on tabs, but would not show up in bookmarks or bookmark tab bar. I then uninstalled it and installed portable version and it runs perfectly. No startup message and favicons show up in the bookmarks and bookmarks tab bar. Any idea why portable versions works fine and have problems with stable version download?
