Iron has always been Chrome. All that the developer has time for is download the latest Chromium code, change the names to Iron, and change the icon.
You're logging in with the same Google account/sync that's built into Chrome. If you logged in with Google account that has Sync ON, all that account settings, preferences, and extensions will sync into Iron.
Iron is expected to look like Chrome, because there are no significant differences.
