Like many I have experienced poor performance with YouTube videos recently.
Videos played at anything above very basic (240p) resolutions now appear to overload my CPU and cause stuttering playback.
Previously I could play videos at 360p and most 720p resolutions without issues.

Older CPU's and basic video (GPU) hardware appear to have problems processing the new HTML5 video stream.
If this is the cause of your issues then reverting back to the old Flashplayer video mode can beneficial.

This works with both the NPAPI extension on SR Iron and PPAPI extension on Google Chrome.

I have a modern fast system with GTX-680 card and this does not work on mine. Still only 360p on YouTube. Other browsers such as Chrome, IE, Firefox, and Opera all play all resolutions.
