You don't have to use the lists that are turned on in the extension by default. I have unsubscribed them and subscribed to fanboy's lists. The filtering therefore works as with built-in engine. It's good the extensions can now block the elements actually than just hiding them as they did before.
Unsubscribing Adblock's defaults and then subscribing to fanboy's list - ok, it works.
BUT it works very slow.
Deactivating Adblock and only using fanboy's adblock.ini works significantly faster.
Adblock thwarts the browser.
This you only can recognize via Iron.

Removed the code from here
This generates a - so far as I see - working adblock.ini from urlfilter.ini .
Thanks, I managed to get that working, and it does appear to generate a working version of the Opera filter.

And I agree with your statement about using fanboy's list in Adblock extension. Slows Iron down. I don't need that as I am on a 7MB DSL service that is not all that great to start with. The adblock.ini is much better.

i have your iron Adblock list (Iron-Chrome) list as a link in my toolbar to your updated list and manually update once a week. Will i have to change the url (https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/iron/complete/adblock.ini) in order to copy your synced (to opera) and manually update my adblock.ini file?

I can't get the auto-updater to work and i am done trying to get it to work. I just want to keep being able to use whatever you're continuing to use for iron. I would like to place the url in my toolbar to just click and copy it and update my adblock.ini file. It's simple this way for an idiot like me to understand.

why would that be needed? I compared the files but I don't know where this is necessary ...
What are the differences? the "*" and some opera specific stuff at the end, right?

Scream81,
dont't know why, but it works.
If there is (sometimes) no blank behind the beginning #, it won't work - so better adding there always a blank.
And replacing * by nothing makes the renamed urlfilter.ini work like the original adblock.ini.
Its my quick and dirty workaround carrying on using urlfilter.ini if adblock.ini stops.
Perhaps we can forget about it, if the lists will be synced - whatever it means.
Adblocking extensions are browser hand breaks.
Iron doesn't need them.
That opens the speedway to the racer.

You can't update adblock.ini while Iron is running.

Thanks arflech, but i already knew that. My main question that nobody has responded to was the "protected files" issue that rOIZ posted about. He says Iron can't access the protected Progams folder that most of you-us have our Iron installed in and you guys have it working. Also I'm confused as to why some say they will switch to chrome one their adblocker os something is fixed right. What about all the tracking crapware? Isn't this why we use Iron?

also, i never got a reply from the admins about this pages google translator. Most of googles extentions enable the tracking, and i asked if this does too, but they won't answer me. Speaking of which, it made my last post sound a bit offense, cuz it re-arranged the wording...lol. What is this new chrome plus? is this another clone but w/o the tracking crap? i saw the benchmark and it's the fastest.

I was also wondering how fanboy is doing with the adblocking script he says he's modifying or something to use opera, which is much like iron's.

Ok, I have done some tests. Indeed I can see a slowdown whe using the Adblock extension. That surprises me a bit since I have not expected such behavior after the implementation of the real blocking instead of just hidding. Too bad... I will not use it for easy synchronization of the fanboy's lists. I have installed however just to check the Adthwart extension (which also quite recently added the real blocking at least at some extent). Here I do not see any slowdown comparing to built-in adblock.ini feature of Iron. I was able to subscribe to fanboy's lists and for now it works very well.

bulek, again a few tests give me this impression:
Adthwart with fanboy's list alone subscribed (https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-adblock.txt) is slower than fanboy's adblock.ini, also + this adblock.ini its slower.
Privoxy (working with all browsers) alone ist nearly as fast as this adblock.ini .
Privoxy + this adblock.ini seems a bit faster than alone with this adblock.ini - I'm not sure, but together at least its not slower (all WinXP 32).
So I prefer this adblock.ini for Iron without any extension. Other browser need Privoxy and also no adblocker extension.
Iron is on top, super fast because of this adblock.ini .
The usual browser rankings don't consider ads.

Privoxy seems not appropriate, it is - just a very little bit - slow.
There are hosts files available.
Taking the fitting hosts file or combining smaller modules make Iron as fast as with this adblock.ini .
But this is a special effort requiring admin rights.
All adblock-extensions for all browsers are too slow if you are familiar with Iron.
Sponsoring websites means something like switching between both adblock.ini versions.
Opera ist not really a rival for Iron, because it zooms uncomfortable, the pictures are a little bit blurred, the fonts are not so good visualized, it has too many variable features (and my own Iron extension is not available: via left mouse doubleclick sometimes removing remainig ads and after "F9" or gmote mouse gesture in browser window horizontal movable "ugly" left-centered websites).

Fanboy's adblock.ini is the best solution and makes out of Iron a web racer.
