Installed 16.0.950.0 on XP - doesn't work

Post by vests273 »

First time user & installation goes fine. Click on icon when program opens I get an "Aw Snap" msg. Reload doesn't respond, nor does "try these suggestions". No features related to the browsing window respond at all. Nothing displays other than the "Aw Snap" msg. I disabled my firewall, but it made no difference. Please advise.

you could have some GPU acceleration issue. Try disable the corresponding flag in chrome://flags

take a look here:

Went to channel releases & was going to download beta ver. but saw the agreements from Google for Chrome & passed. Only interested in Iron. But I did download an earlier Iron release (15.0.900.2) but had same results after installing. Tried using the cmd. line argument to disable GPU but made no difference.
I then tried installing the latest ver. of Chromium & got the same resulting problem as with Iron?
Any other suggestions?

I recently had problems like this too. Haven't solved them yet but it's something to do with the profiles I think but then deleting the profile and letting Iron start a new one didn't help so I dunno. For me, this problem happened when upgrading Iron, or both Iron and Chromium are installed. Uninstall/reinstall Iron didn't help either unfortunately.

While this version (latest portable) works great for me under my "administrator account", trying to open Iron in a "limited user account" produces the exact symptoms your experiencing! Are you running with limited privileges???

I do see a similar issue here. Neither the full install nor the portable version does work on my Win XP machine. The same version is running fine with Win 7.

I can start Iron and I get the prompt if I want to set Iron as my default browser. Afterwards no response any more. Same behavior if you try to open a web page or e.g. the Iron settings page. After a while a message window appears that "Page(s) unresponsive".

Any more ideas?
