Recovering a Bookmarks.bak file

Post by markaz »

Exported the Iron html bookmarks to Firefox yesterday and low and behold, all the bookmarks in Iron are now gone as well as the Profile folder containing the html file. I've located a backup file in the Chromium folder, but its not in html format and have no idea to restore usable bookmarks in Iron. Ideas?

Irons bookmarks file is not an HTML format. It appears to be javascript(js) or Visual Basic(vb)
Rename it to Bookmarks. Should work as before.
Bookmarks is not listed n your profiles as 'Bookmarks.html'
MAKE A COPY FIRST!

Now you need to find out why an Export to an HTML file would delete it from your chromium User Data folder. I have done that operation more than a few times, and never a problem.

EDIT> just re-read. Do you mean that your Profile Folder was deleted along with everything in it? If so, then your problem is more than just a glitch.

Appreciate the replies. First, using Firefox to import the HTML file that was in the profile folder did not succeed....so nothing to export back to Iron. Secondly, there is now the Profile folder AND a bookmarks and bookmarks.bak files, but none in a format that is readable in the browser. Shows all the bookmarks in vb, but not in the browser.
