In the hope that Google would return localized data when I need it to (no sense in being told about burger joints in DC when you live in Berlin), I wanted to change Iron's default search engine from "google.com" to "google.fr"*.
Here's what I did:
- Through "[wrench icon] > Settings > Search > Manage Search Engines > Other Search Engines", I added "google.fr",
- Hit "Make default", which added the item in "Default search settings" alongside "google.com"
- Clicked on "Make default" to make "google.fr" the default engine
- Closed and restarted Iron, expecting it to use "google.fr" as the default engine.
- Typed something in the URL widget... and I'm back at google.com, with non-localized data.
Thank you.
* That still leaves the issue of how to do get non-localized data for general search (ie. search not particular to a given location), but that's another question for another day.
