Best Way To Block Ads??

Post by PinstripedTie »

Hello, I went to download AdBlock today and it warned me that it would then track all the sites I visit
and I surely don't want that, especially after I just went and downloaded this browser to end tracking
issues!

Anyone know how to block ads without being tracked?

If that is what it says for the add-on in Chrome's Extension site, then almost all of the extensions will tell you that, not that the majority is really doing that just stating it as part of their creed.

Also, I recommend Ghostery if you have a tracking problem, it will also state the same thing as the AdBlock about tracking you.

First off, search this forum for 'adblcok.ini'. It is Irons built in adblocker, but YOU have to populate it. There are lists you can copy (then paste) to that file from the web.
Here is one of them.>>> https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/iron/complete/adblock.ini
You need to do the paste with Iron closed.

Secondly, search the web for Adblock Plus(it is a beta at my last look). IT is NOT a Chrome(Google) extension, and is available for Iron and you can subscribe to several lists to it from within it's interface.

The first one is what I use.

adblock plus, you'll have the possibility to hide also elements you cant remove

install the last development ABP version, it's much better then the stable one

ScriptNo is another extension that will allow you to block a lot of annoying things

Not completely newbie-friendly though, and it did seem to slow Iron down quite a bit for me.

Does anybody have suggestions on an extension for blocking facebook/twitter widgets ?

better not install a lot of extensions like noscript

you could use ABP and add the subscription antisocial to block facebook and twitter crap

for example Im using ABP with the following subscriptions

easylist
easyprivacy
antisocial

someone could add some regional list and also maintain some personal blocking or hiding filters (custom filters)
