Near as I can tell Virgin Media Broadband outsources the handling of their e-mail to Google, and the change is in the way Google handles authentication tokens for e-mail and their other services. From the 7th May 2014 you will no longer be able to use your virgin.net email address to log in to any Google services including YouTube, Chrome and Maps. This is due to changes that Google has made which mean that you can no longer access their services in your usual way.
