Hello dear Iron crew,

Before tonight I used Google Chrome (basicly from day one). Tonight I installed Iron and I'm planning to keep using it. Like the topic starter, I'm encountering this Youtube problem too. The videos won't play in any higher resolution than 360p. I've got latest Flash player, I tried clearing cookies/settings, everything. I just can't select any other quality than 360p from the Youtube menu.

What videos you ask? Well any video. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAUzWtLMnU0
or this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XITHbsUUlYI
or this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO-wTGYmVjQ
Here's a screenshot: http://imgur.com/beNn0HB

When I play those same videos in IE or Chrome I am able to select a higher quality. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Just a quick update on my first reply. When I change my user agent to something else (for example FF15), I am able to select higher quality :? (using a user agent switcher addon from the Chrome store).

Btw: I don't use this addon by default and I initialy also didn't have it installed.

1. check Adobe Flash Player on on chrome://plugins or
2. off HTML5 on http://www.youtube.com/html5 or
3. change UA, for example:

Code: Select all

--user-agent="Chrome/30.0.1599.101 Safari/537.36"

I've got exactly the same issue, only since a few days ago. But I'm using Chromium, not Iron. Just might be of help.

I've got exactly the same thing, but on Chromium, not Iron. (posting again, last time I submitted my message wasn't visible).

those links will surely help...

On a hunch I went to:
http://www.youtube.com/html5
and I noticed a discrepancy between chrome and iron on that page.

Both support: HTMLVideoElement, Media Source Extensions, VP9, VP8, and WebM

But only google chrome supports H.264 while Iron does not support it. My guess is that the higher resolutions on those videos are encoded via H.264 instead of VP8 or VP9 (despite google's claim to convert the entire youtube library to it).

Install Magic Actions for YouTube, then go to setting, select "AutoHD" and "Force Player Type": Flash.

I have the same problem with the available youtube resolutions. I only can choose 360p.

Does anyone has an idea what the problem could be? Browser or youtube settings? Plugins?
