Windows 8 - Working but "Class Not Registered"

Postby HarryStottle » Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:48 pm

although I can install and run Iron (v25.0.1400) on Windows 8, and I've currently got it running on 3 machines (2x64 bit desktops and 1x32 bit netbook), the same fault occurs on every machine. Viz the first time it is installed, everything works as advertised, including the desktop, taskbar and start menu icons (I use Start8). However, after a few hours, and even without a reboot, the icons become useless. and if clicked, respond with "Class Not Registered".

Despite which, if I run the program either from the program menu or by doubleclicking the iron.exe file directly, the browser fires up normally, so there clearly is no "real" class registration issue.

It's worth emphasising that this is strictly a Windows 8 Issue. I also have Iron installed on Windows 7 and a few XP machines. None of those have exhibited the same behaviour (so far)

At a guess, I think its a "path" issue, despite the fact the icon/lnk properties are set up to start in the appropriate folder.

Suggestions?

I also have the same problem. Windows 8 and last version of iron too. Very annoying.
Tried a clean reinstallation, but nothing changed.

Where this error can come from?
I hope this will be fixed soon, because it's the main reason i don't use iron as default browser, currently.

Thanks for your attention and your work!

Interesting technical discussion but doesn't help me. Mine includes a virgin install on a virgin Win 8 system.

The string they talk about there (comment #39-41) doesn't seem to exist on my machine. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{5C65F4B0-3651-4514-B207-D10CB699B14B}

I'm still stuck with this problem.

comment #57 of that link:
If I right click on Chrome in the taskbar and click "Open in New Window" then Chrome opens fine;
If I single click to launch Chrome from the taskbar I get the "class not registered" error.

Iron seems to behave the same way at present.

Check your registry keys named [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Chromium.J5FPNQAYQH5D2OJOUZL73RPEPM] and [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ChromiumHTM.J5FPNQAYQH5D2OJOUZL73RPEPM]. In the .exe\shell\opennewwindow\command and \shell\open\command subkeys respectively you may find a string key named DelegateExecute. Deleting these keys helped me to get rid of this annoying "Class not registered" error.

Thanks Valerish
Deleting both entries solved the problem.

Can you make registry patch for solving all these problems, please?
1. Solving the "class not registered" problem in Windows 8.
2. Solving the "hyperlinks cannot be open in Mozilla Thunderbird and Skype".

Or... will be simple if the code writers just make new, modified and working version of Srware Iron.
