I dont like adblock,it was good program in the past.

I'm working on a AutoIt script that downloads 2 ini files (general filters incl. tracking plus regional filters), concatenates them and applies a couple of regex patterns on it.

In case fanboy is reading along (thank you for your work!), I've got a few questions:

• On the Adblock forum, 3 years ago Hubird stated that

  Iron has the most primitive ad blocking capabilities of all the browsers we support.
  Wild cards and whitelisting are not available and at the time of writing the hiding of elements is not possible.

  Does this still apply to SRWare Iron version 24-26?
  Have there been changes/improvements since then?
• What's the difference between the filter patterns

  as for SRWare Iron? Is there any at all?
  Could I safely strip patterns starting with a colon?
• Currently I've assembled these replace conditions:

Please developpers, if you aren't planning to drop the adblock.ini feature completely, tell me what are its matching rules! As there is no updating option for that ini and no documentation of any kind, I need to know how to convert existing blocking rules (easylist) to Iron syntax if possible!

I guess you can contact fanboy and ask him if he has some kind of script to convert the normal rules

Hey here's a little application to generated the latest adblock ini from the easylist. The adblock will appear in the folder the application is in http://rghost.net/49224031.

Here's the procedure I followed: (Source: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1459

To create your own adblock.ini for use in SRWare Iron:
1. Download urlfilter.ini from http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/
2. Open file in text editor, remove all asteriks. (Use Find-Replace and replace all instances of "*" with blank).
3. Also delete all the comment lines starting with semicolon and delete all the section lines starting with "[" (left bracket INI sections). adblock.ini does not support comments or ini sections.
4. Save as Iron\adblock.ini

I don't know if it's complete and if it still fully works today, as it's also from 2013.

Does anyone know where to find this application or a similar one?

I'm starting to use iron and it seems great. Just how do you usually update your "adblock.ini" located in iron's folder.
So far I was able to use this: https://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/urlfilter.ini replacing or removing via editor some "#" and "*" (I don't remember the exact procedure) but this opera list is too old ( 2013), and it doesn't block all ads. So I have to find again the exact procedure, and find an up to date list to work on (Opera or a better one in case the opera filter wouldn't be the best).

In the conflict that opposed the iron developers to fanboy, I think the developers are right. Although some say that iron developers just cut out some code from chrome and don't do anything else, the idea of keeping the old adblock protocol seems far better than relying on adblock plus. As adblock plus appears to have some agreement with google. Chrome is such a bloatware, and I appreciate what you're doing. Keeping it simple and not compromising with google is something I appreciate.
