Iron needs its own Application Data folder

Post by bksening »

When I started SRWare Iron for the first time, it instantly already had an entire History list, Downloads list, saved cookies, saved passwords, etc. when I didn't even go to one page yet using Iron!

It looks like Iron is pulling all the settings from my already installed development version of Chromium.

You cannot do that! Since Iron is a completely self-contained separate software program, there cannot be any interaction/dependency on whether I'm running a development Chromium or not.

So far there has *not* been any new directory created in "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data" for SRWare Iron. But Iron *must* create and use its own Application Data folder, not reuse the one from Chromium!

Ah, I was looking for this.
My main objection to Chrome is its installation in the documents and settings folder, rather than the program files folder, where it should be installed.
Seems Iron does the same.

Still no Chrome or Iron for that matter for me.
I think Google should first address the problem of installing in the correct folder.

I have same experience ! (yeah, its bad behaviour since two browser are not really equal)

I updates Chromium very often, so I am used to (check ... about aplication) ... If its really Iron.

Moreover In a case, Chromium, Iron, both are running ..... all "putting dominacy" for Chromium, (not Iron)

- But we could be sincere to each other .... We testing Chromium nightly builds because we like testing the latest build everytime. So, "normal Iron user" :o have not that problem at all.

.... It will be interesting (feature request idea) ... some "check for updates" inside Iron
to dev channel for WebKit

- something like "Chromium Updater" (but for Iron) ;)

This would be difficult to fix, because thousands of Iron users would have an empty Iron after installing thr "patch".

Thks for your answer.

Of course but, as anyway Iron update is manual, they would have, for example, to execute an utility before or after installing the new version.

Connexe question : why is not the program not in appdata as Chrome or Chromium are, but in "program files" ?

Because the program is not an "Appdata". Its a Program. So it is in the correct folder.
Chrome uses this curious behavior to bypass system permissions - we don't.
