Way to bring back the wrench icon?

I do a double-take every time I see those three horizontal lines; for the life of me I can't figure out how or why that is supposed to represent "options" or "settings."

At any rate, is there any way to bring the icon back? I saw in this post viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6287&p=16843&hilit=wrench+icon#p16845 what I think was a system-wide change, not just for Iron. But is there any way for a user to bring back the wrench?
