Why fonts and websites are displayed differently than in IE?

Post by fon »

Hi there:

I have a viusal problem with Iron Browser.

Some sites fonts are displaying differently (uglier) in Iron than in IE.

Why is that?

This very same problem occurs to me with Comodo Dragon browser.

Sites fonts in IE are more crispy, more clean... better.

But with this browser (in this forum, for example) fonts are more pixelated, less clear.

SO, please:

How can I fix this, so I can view sites exactly as in IE?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

you could try to set your system fonts to ClearType

read here for your system (XP, vista, windows 7):

also, you could play with the iron fonts settings :

chrome://settings/fonts

I'm having the same problem. Cleartype isn't working in Iron Portable V34.0.1850.0 (270000).

There was a problem with Chrome not using Cleartype but that's been fixed now apparently. Workarounds were to enable "Disable accelerated 2D Canvas

but that isn't helping for me with Iron.

There's a separate issue in that Chrome doesn't use DirectWrite, only GDI, at the moment but I don't think that's what's making things look so washed out compared to IE for me.

It's fixed for me in Chrome Version 38.0.2125.58 beta-m (64-bit) without having to do any workarounds. I think it's the DirectWrite thing that's been implemented.
