Direct download of pdf's

Post by Sarah »

When I want to download a pdf in SRWare Iron, I am forced to save it first. Then I can click on it in the left corner. This annoys me and I am reluctant to click pdf's.

Does anyone know if there a way to open pfd's immediately in Iron? Just like in most other browsers?

First you need a PDF reader installed on your PC.

With Iron open, type about:plugins in the address field. Make sure the plugin for your PDF reader is installed and enabled.

When you download a file you see it in the download bar at the bottom of the Iron window.

Right click on it and select "always open files of this type". So if you have donwloaded a PDF file then in the future all PDF files will be automatically opened.

Hope it helps.

More information please.
What PDF reader are you using? If it is Acrobat, I am not sure the 'Open in Browser' setting works for Iron or Chrome.
I quit using Acrobat a few years back. TO big, to invasive and not enough features to do a good job anymore.
I switched to Foxit, then to PDFXchange. I like PFXchange better. http://www.tracker-software.com/product ... nge-viewer

It always worked at my end with both Adobe (previously) and Foxit (now).

CLOSE Iron.

---------------------------------

FOR ADOBE:

1. Open Adobe
2. Drop down Edit
3. Click on Preferences
4. Click on Internet
5. Check the box next to "Display PDF in Browser"
6. Close Adobe Acrobat

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat "your version"\Acrobat\Browser
2. Copy the file "nppdf32.dll"
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\SRWare Iron\Plugins (if you dont have a "Plugins" folder, create one)
4. Paste the nppdf32.dll file
5. Restart Iron.

--------------------------------

For FOXIT:

With Iron CLOSED

Open Foxit. Go to tools, Preferences, Internet. Put a check at "Display PDF in Browser".

Go to C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\plugins

Right-Click on npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll, click on Copy.

Go to C:\Program Files\SRWare Iron\Plugins (if you dont have a "Plugins" folder, create one)

Right-click in the folder, Paste.

-------------------------------

OPEN Iron, type about:config in the address field. You should see your PDF reader in the list.

Hope it will work for you too.

Thank you all so much for your help.

I downloaded Foxit and it worked. Pdf's opened in Iron.

It was only then that I read JustMe's answer. I followed the instructions and it worked too: Adobe-pdf's were displayed in Iron too!

I personally prefer SumatraPDF, which recently started coming with its own plugin.
