IRON - Advantages/Disadvantages of portable apps

Post by biggles »

I'm new to SRWare Iron but I have used Chrome.

I downloaded the portable version, created a folder on my HD and extracted the zip to that folder.
The browser works a treat so far, thankyou.
I've even played with the UA.INI (user agent string) and altered that :D

But here is the basic question. What are the advantages of 'installing' over 'portable' or vice/versa.
i.e. if Portable seems to work so well, why would I need to install?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

Thank you.

portable version is for use on a USB drive/ thumb drive. it'll store your documents, pictures, etc. as if the thumb drive were your "actual" computer. In short, it's for use on computers on-the-go (if you can't or won't use your own.) otherwise use the .zip version you downloaded, since you're only using one computer.

funny thing: if you install the portable apps main launch thingie you can have too separate browser (Iron) with 2 separate sets of favorites. it took me awhile to find this out because i messed up downloading it onto my computer.
