How does one update an older version of SR..........by uninstalling & re installing a newer one??

No, just run the installer; be sure to back up your adblock.ini because the installer will put a blank copy in its place.

No, it doesn't. You need to download and install each new update.

Iron is a privacy-focused browser. It would be strange if the software was constantly "calling home" (as Chrome does) to determine whether there is any update :)

But it wouldn't be so bad if iron had a button "Check for updates", right?

I personally hope the developers don't take this seriously.
The best way to know if there are updates to any OS is to check these forums. The SRWare folks are pretty damned good at keeping the 'updates' in the threads for the individual OS's(Windows, Linux, Mac).

I second that, but also there is the ability to subscribe by RSS, that's how I am updated.
Less time stalking the forums and more time being updated on whatever is necessary.
