SRWare Iron Will Not Set As The Default Browser

Post by goodjohnjr »

Hello,

I have a problem with SRWare Iron not being able to the Default Browser, every time I click Make SrWare Iron The Default Browser, it does not work.

I have un-installing it, re-installing it, clearing my browser data, running in normal mode, running in incognito mode, I have tried it without extensions, I have tried it with extensions, I have run CCleaner, I have run Comodo System Cleaner, I have run Malwarebytes, I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, I have run Hitman Pro, I have run Norton Power Eraser, I have checked my Windows Firewall, I have run Norton DNS, etc but I still have the problem. :D

Is anyone else having this problem and are there any solutions?

I can not set it as the Default Program from the Control Panel due to damage done by some malware over a month ago by the way. ;)

I do not have this problem with Comodo Dragon, Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer; so I am not sure what the problem is. :D

Operating System:

Windows 7 32-Bit Ultimate

Running Security Products:

Microsoft Security Essentials, Comodo Firewall+Sandbox+HIPS, Norton DNS, AVG LinkScanner, Secunia PSI, Peer Block.

Did you try running the installer as an admin? I had to do that to make it my default browser with an older version. It then presented me with a window asking me if i want Iron to be the default browser. Before that i had the same problem. You might want to read my post about how many google add-ons can get access to your browsing anywhere you go and accessing your data.

I did try running the browser as the administrator, but that still did not work. :(

But I will try to run the installer again as administrator and see what happens. ;)

Thank you for the tip, I hope it works. :D

Okay, I feel stupid now. :D

I am so use to installers automatically being set to Install/Run As Administrator, that I did not notice that the SRWare Iron Installer was not set to do that; so setting the installer manually to Run/Install As Administrator, fixed the problem. :D

Thank you very much Jazluvr. :)

Maybe the next version should have that enabled by default. ;)

Keep up the good work,
-John Jr :)

You're very welcome John Jr! I'm glad it worked for you. Yes, it's a good idea maybe Iron can change the code to install as admin by default. I am just learning there are some things they can do and some things are just hard coded into chrome, so they cannot for whatever reason, change it.

I was pleading with them to give us back an option to add (space)--enable-cookie-prompt to the target field, and it works with version 7.0.520.1 of Iron, (maybe earlier too...dunno), but chrome came out with a new build and took the option away, so I guess SRWare guys can't rewrite the base code, so i have posted in chromes forum, along with many others, to give us an updated version with the cookie prompt back in. You can see my post in the main forum page.

Also don't forget to check out fanboys adblock list here, fanboy and members here have made an auto-updater that you manually click on to update your adblock list, and is much faster and more private than chromes adblocker. You have a lot of add-ons you might find you don't want or need with Iron, as the more you have it slows down a browser, but everybody has their own likings. Look at SRWare's benchmark post of latest build of Iron. All I'm running is fanboys adblocker, a windows hosts file, and it's plenty fast. and I'm using an older version! Lol.

I'm a bit excited also, i just got done incorporating winpenpack's X-Iron portable, version 7.0.520.1 like i said, with all my bookmarks and my beloved cookie prompter, and right now I'm running it from my usb flash drive...lol. I love it! I've never used any portable apps before, so i just overcame a learning curve, and i feel great about it. Browse the forums here, you'll find them. Enjoy your new browser...it's the best!

Thank you again, and you are correct, there are some things they just can not do to the code. ;)

I may read your posts one of these years ;), maybe one day your will get that feature back ;) , it is good that you are sharing your opinions and trying to help the SRWare Team and Community. :)

I did not know that Fanboy was around the forum or that there was an Auto-Updater, thank you for sharing that, I may check that out ;) ; I am currently using AdBlock Plus Beta with Easy List, Easy Privacy, Google Chrome Supplement, and Malware Domains.

I may try Fanboys List too :D , I just did not want to use to many lists, but one more would not hurt right? ;)

You probably are right about the extra Extensions, but I am testing them, and I hope to get rid of some of them soon. ;)

I have never used a Hosts File before, but I recently glanced over some information about a few, I might try one; do you have any recommendations and/or comments about how as the Hosts File helped you? :)

Congratulations, I have never tried a portable browser yet, maybe one of these years. ;) :D

Well, thank you and I look forward to the continued improvement/development of SRWare Iron. :)

Have a nice day,
-John Jr :)

Hi, can you tell me the step by step to have me install as an administrator? I am an administrator on my computer and I tried running the install again but I couldn't see anything that would enable me being an administrator to install.
Thanks for any help.

Sure! :)

Right click the mouse on the SRWare Iron Installer, Left click the mouse on Properties, Left click the mouse on the Compatibility tab, Check Run This Program As An Administrator, and Left click the mouse on Ok to save.

Now when you go to run the SRWare Iron Installer, something should pop up asking you if you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer or something like that, just click Yes/Ok.

The end, now that was easy right? :) ;)
