Ultrasurf with Srware Iron?

Post by zero57 »

Hi, I've been using srware iron for a while now, and I like what it provides, but one thing, can I use Ultrasurf with Srware Iron, and how can I do that? It seems like it only supports firefox and IE..

Thanks.

Ultrasurf was recommended to me recently on this forum so I've been using it on and off for the past few days. IE and Chromium browsers use the proxy settings through Windows Internet Settings (through Control Panel), not by changes directly in the browser like Firefox and Opera. Just start Ultrasurf, go through the options to turn off all the Internet Explorer stuff and you can go to whatever sites in Iron you want from there. You need to do nothing to Iron to configure it and when you exit Ultrasurf, you go back to your ISP provided IP address automatically. Very easy and seamless, though I'm finding Ultrasurf often just takes me to a search page of its own instead of the URL addresses I want.

To test that it is working, use http://www.ip-secrets.org and/or http://www.whatismyip.com.

Ah! After a few minutes of playing around with the options, I found how to use Ultrasurf with srware iron! (I'm sorry for double post, but I just wanted to give people a heads up. This may help people too.)

Okay, first download ultrasurf if you haven't already
http://www.ultrareach.com/index_en.htm

Then extract the files and open ultrasurf. (Don't forget to close IE because it automatically pops up)

Then have your options look like this:

HIt Ok and you're ready to go! (You're already connected to their server once you open the program.)

Then just minimize so it doesn't get in your way. (It'll be in your system tray).

If you're curious that it works, then just try with this:
http://whatismyipaddress.com/

It'll have your IP Address changed to one of their servers. (Try it with Ultrasurf on, and off. You'll notice that it changed)

Here is some info on a variety of different proxy servers. All seem to be free or at least, have a free option. Ultrasurf doesn't fair to well it seems. A lot of your data is logged though it is a quick and easy ip masking option.

Here also are some security minded Chromium extensions to look into.

Enjoy.

I wanted to post this, very disturbing
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost ... tcount=106

It basically says Ultrasurf is a form of very advanced malware that disguises its activity in your browser's outbound connections. It can disable https and collect data from the unencrypted transmissions, as well as a number of other things. Ultrasurf is known for being flagged as malware by AV scanners but until this release, was thought to be only a false positive. An internet search will turn up more info regarding all this. I will look more into everything in the morning.

Uninstall the program (or delete the extracted folder) and search your computer and registry for "u1004" or "u92" or whatever with the number being your version (10.04 or 9.2, etc) and remove all with this name. I used the portable zip so i only had about 3 registry keys to undo. I found nothing in the users/appdata folders from the program. Afterwards, full system scans with updated MBAM and Windows Defender has turned up nothing unusual. Also going through my firewall logs has shown nothing out of the ordinary during and after its use.

Spooky stuff.
