Bookmarks question

Okay here is the story. I am basically fed up of both Firefox and Internet explorer because both of them have become greatly bloated and slow. I wanna give Iron a try, but before that I have two questions: can Iron import Firefox bookmarks?

Also, is there any way I can block certain sites from loading in my browser, kinda like this:

Thanks. :)

As to bookmarks, Yes, Iron will import your Firefox bookmarks (or from Internet Explorer if you wish) or both, but not at the same time.
Look under the Tool in the upper right corner of Iron and select Options, then go to the Personal Stuff tab of the popup panel. Once there, select the 'Import data form another Browser' option, and then you can choose what you want from the list, including passwords.

I am not sure about your second question. I can't find anything that shows Iron will allow you to 'blacklist' or 'whitelist'. There may be an extension somewhere that will let you do that.

I forgot something about bookmarks. I have found that if you have more than one Firefox Profile, Iron will import from the last one used, or from the one that Iron considers the 'default' Firefox profile. I wish the Iron folks would include an option of importing from a file!

As to the second thing you asked, if that site is a Chrome extension that allows you to 'block' sites, it SHOULD work in Iron.

Here is the link to the actual install page for the Google add-on.

You can. click on the wrench, then bookmarks manager, and you'll see bookmarks manager in bold letter to the left of the window. Right next to it it says "organize." Click on that and it will give you 2 options to import and export from-to files.

and careful of some of those chrome extensions...i found that most of them that auto-update can enable the tracking crapware in chrome. I don't use anything that's connected to a server except using this http://pgl.yoyo.org/as/serverlist.php?h ... howintro=0 as an automatic configuration script to block adware and other junk.

@ jazluvr: Thanks for that reminder! I do that about once a month, and for some reason (old age I guess) I just completely forgot all about the Bookmarks manager allowing to read from a file.

Thanks a lot. Also is there any ad blocker extension available for Iron?

Yes, there is an 'adblocker' extension available, but ad-blocking is built into Iron. Read through this thread first.

Here is a link for an extension. I had it, but liked Iron's adblock.ini better.

There may be others, do a search for Google extensions.

I think many people here use http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock/. i use irons main and tracking lists. Also instead of using google as a search engine, i use http://www.scroogle.org/. It's an alternative to google that doesn't track you and keep your info. I would advise against using any of googles adblockers, cuz even many of their add-ons enable the tracking crap we are so opposed to.

Browse the different forums. People get into proxy servers and can get pretty elaborate, and very effective if you're really serious about your privacy. I'm about medium core...ha. Good luck.

i have even gotten warning pop-ups that say google will be able to get info from you if you install this add-on. At least they're honest spies, 1/2 the time...lol.
